At Ultra Scalp Ink, we get many different types of questions regarding the Scalp Micropigmentation procedure. One question we get fairly often is “If I have lighter/dark skin tone, will the treatment still look good? The answer is yes, it will definitely still look good – if performed by a qualified practitioner.
As I have stated in a previous blog, Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is suitable for all genders, ethnicities and creeds. To expand on this statement just a bit, it’s suitable for all different ethnicities, whether your skin tone is extremely light or dark. The pigment is the key to an SMP treatment. The type of pigment that’s used for a client depends on the skin tone. That is our job at Ultra Scalp Ink – to decipher the pigment we use prior to our clients first treatment. We will always start off lighter and will go darker during a treatment, if we believe it’s required. Don’t forget – if we believe the pigment is too light after the first treatment, we will add more pigment on the second session.
For those with naturally darker tone such as Afro-American, Afro-Caribbean, and African backgrounds and ethnicities, the process of Scalp Micropigmentation, will require a darker toned pigment to match the scalp. Matching a darker pigment with the follicle is rather simple because the darker pigment is easier to see on darker complexions. There is less blending involved. It is important to remember that due to the fact that the pigment will naturally fade, a more defined hairline and style will be required on darker skin.
Those with extremely fair hair and skin will have a decision to make regarding the final look of the procedure. The head could be shaved entirely, leaving no trace of the original hair at all and then introduce a darker pigment through the SMP process. This will give the impression of darker hair and can work well. Caution should be exercised, though – if the hair of your eyebrows is as light as the hair on your head was then a darker pigment on the scalp could look unnatural and false. The other option is to use an extremely light pigment. The only downside to this is that any ink used will fade, and the lighter it is the less easy it will be to see.
Ultimately, those with light skin and hair should consult a qualified SMP technician and consider the options . Your options will be discussed at length during your consultation.
There is no need to be concerned when the hair is dark on lighter skin. A faded hairline is often used on lighter skin to give a more natural look and so this requires smaller Scalp Micropigmentation dots to be applied. Scalp Micropigmentation will blend naturally with the hair. This may be the ideal hair and skin colour combination because it can be faded and thus look the most natural.
The treatment will still look good and you will notice a big improvement from prior to your first treatment and after you final treatment.
