Are There Any Side Effects to SMP?

I hear all of these positive things about Scalp Micropigmentation but are there any side effects on this procedure? We know that some of you may be concerned about side effects. While there are some potential side effects, there are none that will last for any extended period.

As can happen during any procedure, there always can be side effects but with Scalp Micropigmentation, the side effects are c
very minimal. At Ultra Scalp Ink, we discuss this during your consultation and you will fill out a medical consent form where we ask questions regarding your health. Some side effects to SMP could be, which would be temporary:

Allergic Reaction – in your medical consent forms, we ask about any allergies you may suffer from.We ask if you are allergic to metals, pigments, foods, lidocaine, glycerine or antiseptics. If you suffer from allergies or are concerned because you are not sure, we will perform a patch test to see if you would be allergic to ours pigment

Excess Drying Of Skin – Dry skin is usually harmless but when it is not cared for, dry skin may lead to Atopic dermatitis (eczema). If you are prone to develop this condition, excessive dryness can lead to activation of the disease, causing a rash and cracking skin. Before your procedure, we will ask you to moisturise your scalp. This makes the skin easier to work on for the practitioner and will help with scalp dryness. You can continue to moisturise your scalp until after all three Scalp Micropigmentation treatments are finished.

Bumps and Redness – This would be a common side effect to the SMP procedure but there is no need to worry! If you get redness/bumps during the procedure, this will only last for 24-48 hours max. If we notice redness during your treatments, we have a red spray, supplied by Ink Cali, that we use at the conclusion of the procedure, that helps ease the redness

Bleeding – While bleeding is possible, it is minimal at best. Remember, the needle is hitting the epidermal level of the skin, unlike a traditional tattoo, which goes deeper. If there is any bleeding, it would similar to nicking yourself while shaving.

Itchy Scalp – Some clients report that their scalp feels itchy or tight after their treatment sessions. This usually kicks in after a couple of days and goes away again as the scalp heals. This is caused by the natural healing process, as each micro-wound scabs and the skin exfoliates.

Swollen Lymph Nodes – When they fill with cells the body considers to be unhealthy, swollen lymph nodes appear. A swollen lymph node feels like a firm, moveable ball. The scalp draining lymph nodes are found at the base of the skull, behind the ears, and down the neck. Often, swollen lymph nodes show an infection.

After a Scalp Micropigmentation treatment, you will almost definitely be healed in time for your next treatment. While most clients are healed in 2-3 days, we have seen it take between 7-10 days for it to fully heal.
