While most things people hear about Scalp Micropigmentation is positive but there are certain negatives. You may ask “What are the risks or what can go wrong?”
There are not any issues or problems caused by the treatment itself. The following are some factors that may bring side effects during and after a Scalp Micropigmentation treatment:
Inexperienced practitioner
Heavy metals present in the ink
Unsanitary tools
Allergies
Unhygienic maintenance
Poor pigments used by the artist
If the artist uses normal tattoo inks
What are the side effects?
1. Swollen Lymph Nodes – When they fill with cells the body considers to be unhealthy, swollen lymph nodes appear. A swollen lymph node feels like a firm, moveable ball. The scalp draining lymph nodes are found at the base of the skull, behind the ears, and down the neck. Often, swollen lymph nodes show an infection. This will settle down after a few days following a procedure.
2. Redness – Shortly after a treatment session, a slight redness is a common side effect. It is usually your skin’s reaction to the perforation. In the end, it is nothing to worry about, as this goes away in one or two days. Normally, it will go away several hours after the procedure. At Ultra Scalp Ink, we have a red spray that we use on our clients post procedure if we see excess redness. This helps to calm the skin down.
3. Allergies – Some people have an allergic reaction after the ink is applied to their scalp. This may be due to the ink used by the artist. The ink may contain some heavy metals or reactants that may react with your scalp and cause an allergic reaction.
4. Itching – Itching seems to be a common complaint by the clients after their treatment. It is usually because of the scab formation. Scabs form in order to heal the wound. They are dry spots on your skin that may cause irritation or itchiness. Like redness, it also goes away in a few days.
5. Heavy metals – If the pigment used by your practitioner contains heavy metals during the procedure, it may cause a reaction. This is more of an inconvenience than a side effect.
6. Unsanitary tools – It may cause extreme reactions if the practitioner uses unsanitary tools. On your scalp, it can form marks that are hard to handle. Please remember to ask your artist to use clean and sanitary tools.
