While researching Scalp Micropigmentation, after care is extremely important to focus on. You are going to be spending your hard on money on the treatments and you want to do everything within your power to ensure the treatments do not fade earlier than in should. Before you book in to have the procedure, you want more information on the after care. One of the questions you have for us “What is the healing period like?
Scalp Micropigmentation has one of the fastest healing times compared to other hair loss solutions. Whereas a hair transplant can take up to six months to heal, you will be fully healed in four to seven days after SMP! A Scalp Micropigmentation treatment involves virtually no downtime and you can carry on with your daily activities right after the treatment. With that said, your scalp will show an immediate reaction to the treatment and you will need to pay some special attention to it.
After treatment it is common to notice slight redness on the scalp for two to three days post treatment. This should not be a cause for alarm. It indicates the body is doing what it is supposed to be doing. Inflammation is the body’s natural response to wounds of any kind. A soothing cream that is suitable for this process may be applied throughout the healing time period to help the inflammation and redness.
It may also entail irritation, dryness, and scabbing. Scabs are protective layers. The healing process will continue under the scabs. The scabs will become dry and some start to fall off. This usually occurs between the fifth and sixth day post treatment. A quick note – You may have a strong urge to pick at these scabs, but it’s best to not disturb them. None of these symptoms will affect your daily life. Most people will be able to go to work the same day or within the next couple of days after a treatment. Clients are also allowed to wear hats or headwear should they feel the need.
You will have to adjust your shower routine and avoid certain activities. Do Not Wash, sweat or shave your head and protect from rain for 4 days. Day 5, use moisturiser on the scalp three times per day until your next appointment. Protect your head from the sun whilst having treatment and use sun factor 30 after 10 days. (In the long term, we suggest using SPF50 when you are in the sun to help avoid fading quicker than expected.) You are allowed to wear a hat after your procedure but it must be a breathable hat and it should be taken off from time to time.
How does the healing process effect the pigment? When the skin heals after the perforations and closes off, it encloses the pigments within itself. It goes deep in certain areas and shallow in others. The pigment may appear lighter, translucent or even invisible. This allows the technician to judge if they will need to increase the pigment to become darker for their further treatment sessions.
