Recovery From SMP Takes How Long?

We get many different types of questions from our potential clients. One question we get fairly often “Recovery from Scalp Micropigmentation treatments takes how long?” Unlike a hair transplant procedure, Scalp Micropigmentation heals very quickly. On most occasions, our clients are able to go back to work immediately after a treatment or the very next day. The healing process depends on the person. As we know, each person’s body reacts differently to a procedure.

The recovery time varies from patient to patient but the following would be an approximate during the entire process:

After the first session, the immediate response you will notice is redness. This is very natural and common as the skin is very sensitive. Not to worry as this is only a temporary reaction and the skin normally calms within 24 to 48 hours. We have a red spray that we use after the procedure, if we believe the client requires it. This helps ease the redness quicker.

You may notice slight inflammation, which again is a natural reaction. Inflammation is the first stage of wound healing. If you follow our after care and use soothing cream, which is suitable for this process, to help the inflammation and the redness.

Once the redness subsides, you MAY notice scab formation throughout the area. Scabs are protective layers. The healing process still continues under the scabs. Even though the area may feel dry and itchy, you must not touch these scabs. If your hands are dirty, you may inadvertently cause an infection to the area .

The scabs will start peeling off in flakes, after approximately four to seven days. Once the scabs fall off and dry, the scalp fully heals itself.

The staff at Ultra Scalp Ink have spoken to several people who have had the had the Scalp Micropigmentation procedure and they have reported swollen lymph nodes. These procedures were not performed at Ultra Scalp Ink. When these fill with cells the body considers to be unhealthy, swollen lymph nodes can appear. A swollen lymph node feels like a firm, moveable ball. The scalp draining lymph nodes are found at the base of the skull, as well as behind the ears, and down the neck. Often, swollen lymph nodes show an infection. We have even heard of others who have experienced some lymph oozing and even spots of blood. We  suggest contacting your GP immediately if you experience such side effects. This type of reaction MAY be an infection and it’s always better to be cautious.

A time frame of healing is normally given is four to seven days after a Scalp Micropigmentation treatment. Most of the healing symptoms will have completely subsided by day seven. You will be ready for your second treatment session the following week. After your third and final session, approximately four weeks after your second session, you need to be careful to avoid certain activities for approximately thirty days. If you choose to have the procedure performed at Ultra Scalp Ink, you will receive both pre- care and aftercare instructions via email and text.
