Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP for short) is a non-surgical, superficial cosmetic tattoo that gives the illusion of a close buzz cut hairstyle on a bald head or adding density to a thinning crown. The procedure can also be used to conceal FUE / FUT scars from hair transplants and hide the visual impact of burns or scars on the head. Scalp Micropigmentation can be performed on both men and women and on all ethnicities and creeds. The procedure does not involve local anaesthetic. In contrast to traditional tattoos, this treatment is superficial in that it penetrates the epidermal level of the skin. The ink is deposited in the upper dermal level of the skin in order to avoid macro impression. The advantage of this procedure is that the hairline can be adjusted or touched up with relative ease.
The cost of scalp micropigmentation depends on a variety of factors, such as the size of the area that needs to be covered on the scalp (the severity of hair loss), the location, and proximity of the clinic. We will provide a bespoke quotation during your FREE, NO OBLIGATION consultation. Alternatively, if you send images through our contact page or directly to our email, we can provide a quote. The procedure takes three sessions which usually last between two – three hours each. Please note – clients who are having an alopecia treatment will take longer. The sessions are spread over six weeks. The first two sessions are consecutive weeks. The third session is four weeks after your second session. The space between sessions is to see how well the pigment takes to the scalp. This will be discussed during the consultation prior to your treatments begin. The chosen ink / pigment colour matches the current colour of the clients hair follicle. During our consultations, we provide a medical health form for all our clients to fill out. If you have allergies or are concerned you may be allergic to our pigment, we will perform a small patch test on an inconspicuous part of the scalp before performing the full treatment to rule out allergies to the ink / pigment. The hairline is one of the most crucial aspects of the treatment and we provide a top notch hair reconstruction, if you require this.
Although scalp micropigmentation is a permanent treatment, it can be removed with laser treatment. There is no scientific data on whether people have suffered side effects over the past ten years as long as the ink /pigment used is from a reputable distributor. At Ultra Scalp Ink, we use Ink Cali to supply both our pigments and sharps.
The treatment can last for up to 6 years or more depending on how the procedure was performed and how it’s taken care of in the following years. When you are in the sun for an extended period, we suggest using a SPF50 or higher. We provide aftercare instructions to all our clients after their first treatment session. Micropigmentation can start to lighten after 4 to 6 years, requiring a touchup but this depends on the person.
