Do I Need To Go Over Scars?

If you have done your research on the Scalp Micropigmentation procedure, you know that most providers perform scar camouflaging. People who have had a hair transplant left with a scar from where the technician takes the donor hair from. This is why scalp micropigmentation technicians often have clients who have already had a hair transplant. SMP camouflages both the FUE and FUT transplant scars. There are many benefits to scar camouflaging. It can help increase your self-confidence and correct and improve the appearance of skin and scalp issues. Here’s some information about the treatments:

Different scar patterns require different processes to achieve maximum camouflage. Scalp Micropigmentation Scar Camouflage techniques are used to flatten a scar and/or diminish the appearance of the scar. These are the different types of scars we are able to work on:

FUT scars which are referred to as a strip scar. These are usually a single line scar per surgery at the back of the head
FUE scars which are also known as dot scars. These are a conglomeration of small scars which are usually at the back of the head. They are sometimes at the sides behind the ears
Cobblestone scar which are usually the result of a hair transplant from methods performed many years ago, poor technique by the technician or an inadequate healing process
Scars from other head trauma or neurosurgery

Despite significant improvements in recent years to the ways hair restoration can be performed, scars remain an inevitable by-product of a hair transplant procedure. While the best physicians are able to minimise scar tissue and promote more efficient healing, a scar is part of the natural healing process and cannot be avoided entirely.

Scalp micropigmentation is commonly used to hide this legacy of surgery. We are often approached by men who have found their confidence is affected by the presence of these scars, a problem experienced most often by those who have had multiple surgeries, or have continued to lose their hair and are finding it more difficult to cover their scars.

Our scar camouflage procedures typically take place over three treatment sessions. The duration of these sessions depends on the nature of your scar tissue, and it is important to note that as scars retain pigment in a less predictable fashion than undamaged skin, your treatment plan will remain flexible as we assess your pigment retention after each session.

At Ultra Scalp Ink, clients who have scars on their heads have two options. The first will be to cover / camouflage them. We can cover approximately 60-90% of the scar and they will not be as detectable after the procedure is performed. The second option is we can just temporarily cover the scars during the treatment with a temporary marker. This will ensure we do not go over the scar and just go around. We will discuss your different options when you have your consultation prior to your treatments.Always remember, it is your scalp that’s being worked on so it’s your decision as to what you prefer to have!
